Natwest is the leading target for phishers in the banking industry, says anti-spam software firm ClearMyMail.

ClearMyMail reviewed all the spam and fraudulent e-mails that it had prevented from reaching customers last December, in order to draw up its top ten phishing targets.

It found that Natwest was the target for 41% of all phishing e-mails, well ahead of number two target Citibank, which made up 27% of phishing e-mails. HSBC was the number three target with 11% of e-mails.

The ClearMyMail top ten:

1. Natwest (41% of all phishing e-mails blocked were targeting Natwest Bank) 2. Citibank (27%) 3. HSBC (11%) 4. Abbey (6%) 5. Lloyds TSB (4%) 6. Pay Pal (internet transaction banking for likes of Ebay - 2%) 7. Royal Bank of Scotland (1%) 8. Nationwide (1%) 9. Halifax (0.8%) 10. MBNA (0.5%)
