Salisbury NHS Trust expands Wi-Fi network to support bedside
care
Salisbury NHS Foundation
Trust is expanding its
Wi-Fi network across its site.
The Trust has had a wireless network in place in the accident
and emergency department for the past three years, but it says this
latest solution will make it one of the first hospitals in the UK
to have wireless capabilities across its entire site.
The new solution will enable systems to be taken directly to the
point of care in the form of individual mobile devices, allowing
nurses and doctors to take electronic patient notes and input them
directly into the system at the patient's bedside.
This will save time, reduce paperwork and improve data accuracy.
It will also improve administration efficiency through real time
admission, transfer and discharge of patients and day-to-day bed
availability tracking, said the Trust.
The solution implemented by Alfred McAlpine - IT Services is
also capable of supporting technologies such as
IP telephony and Radio Frequency Identification in the
future.
Peter Russell, head of IT at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust,
said, "The processes that we will now be able to implement across
all departments will transform the way our staff work and
importantly allow us to provide patients with a more efficient
service and the highest standard of care."
