Arbor Networks, a provider of secure service control systems for global business networks, is acquiring Ellacoya Networks, a provider of carrier-class broadband service optimisation products.

Arbor Networks says it protects more than 70% of the world's service provider networks from security threats such as DDoS attacks, botnets and worms, as well as network issues such as traffic and routing instability.

Ellacoya specialises in deep packet inspection (DPI) systems deployed at the broadband edge and peering links in some of the world's largest Tier 1 service provider networks, providing traffic visibility and traffic prioritisation capabilities.

In addition, the Ellacoya system is used to deliver new products and services, such as IPTV, digital video and on-demand quality-assured broadband services.

These capabilities will extend the Arbor offering to customers. The value of the transaction has not been disclosed.
