LogicaCMGhas joined forces withArcotto launch a software-based two-factor authentication system in Europe.

LogicaCMG said software two-factor authentication was proving popular in the US because of increased customer demand for organisations to provide security assurances.

Arcot developed the software, which has been built into LogicaCMG's existing Assure authentication platform.

Tim Best, director of enterprise security solutions at LogicaCMG, said using Arcot's technology, Assure could provide increased security at 20% of the cost of hardware-based systems.

He said software-based systems could also be distributed easily, eliminating the need to buy, issue and maintain hardware devices.
