There are now 19 teams signed up for theCARE Three Peaks
Challenge, organised by charity CARE
International and supported by Computer Weekly.
The challenge, to be held on 7-8 June, is a chance for teams
from
IT departments and companies to climb Britain's three highest
peaks - Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon - in 24 hours.
Money raised by teams will help support CARE International's
overseas development work. The charity is one of the world's top
three development organisations, and is working in more than 60
countries to help fight poverty.
Companies signed up so far include IOP publishing, Woolf,
Capgemini, Charles Taylor Consulting and CfBT Education
Trust.
One team taking part, from services supplier CSC, has already
raised more than £4,000.
CSC solutions architect Shelley Chuong said, "As a team of CSC
graduates relatively new to the IT industry, we saw this as an
exciting opportunity to represent CSC in an unusual way. The event
will be a true team challenge, in both physical and fundraising
aspects, albeit one we expect to be highly rewarding once
complete.
"Our fundraising is going from strength to strength. After
initial pleas to our friends, family and colleagues, sponsorship
has been gathering speed and, together with full support from CSC's
directors and management teams, we have been able to raise a
substantial amount.
"Having had a fully indulgent Christmas and New Year break, we
have all stamped training high on our list of New Year's
resolutions. Vices are out the window, with Carl, our only smoking
member of the team, going cold turkey and quitting the habit."
Another participant, Steven Perrott, an IT specialist at FMC, is
taking part for a 13th consecutive year. "These challenges are not
team-building events for the faint-hearted, they are truly for
people who want to excel and succeed in the extraordinary," he
said.
How to book your place on the three peaks
challenge
The CARE Three Peaks Challenge, scheduled for the weekend of 7
to 8 June 2008, is open exclusively to corporate teams of
professionals from the IT sector and IT companies.
The teams, of between four and six walkers, will be given the
task of climbing the UK's three highest stand-alone mountains - Ben
Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales -
within 24 hours.
