Hewlett-Packard(HP) is encouraging
Hertfordshire residents to donate their old IT equipment by rolling
out a series of charitablerecyclingevents that will help
vulnerable children.
HP, in conjunction with Hertfordshire WasteAware Partnership and
IT recycling not-for-profit-firm Maxitech.biz, is setting up take
back stations at various locations across Hertfordshire for
refurbishment and recycling.
Unwanted computers, monitors, printers, mobile phones, digital
cameras and scanners will be professionally refurbished, and given
to the children's charity NCH
or resold to UK-based organisations unable to afford brand-new
equipment.
Any proceeds made will fund the Maxitech.biz Edge Employer IT
hardware training programme, designed to help disadvantaged people
gain nationally recognised qualifications.
Equipment that cannot be reused will be recycled by a
specialised recycling plant to minimise the electronic waste that
goes to landfill and reduce its environmental impact.
Peter Paduh, managing director at Maxitech.biz, said, "There are
thousands of old computers in Hertfordshire homes doing nothing,
but just as many people in our local community and across the UK
who cannot afford to buy this kind of equipment at full price.
"We'd like as many people as possible to bring their unwanted IT
along to one of the events so that it can be put to good use."
The first collections will take place this weekend and go on
into early February. The public are being warned by HP to wipe
their disc drives before donating kit.
