RWEnpower, the UK's largest electricity
supplier, is planning to use software fromMKSto manage new software releases of
its customer billing system.
RWE Systems UK, the IT arm of npower will implement MKS
Integrity for the npower Residential Billing Systems Centre. The
MKS software is designed provide a workflow-based approach to
software deployment, supporting the automation and enforcement of
release management best practice for business critical billing
systems. The software will be used to ensure changes made to the
core residential billing system are implemented into production as
part of npower's IT strategy to improve the release of new
software.
Jim Relton, head of release management at RWE npower, said, "MKS
Integrity will providing us with full traceability and auditability
from initial request for change through to the deployment of that
change into production." Relton expected the product will help
npower reduce costs, streamline processes and enhance
reporting.
RWE npower generates electricity and supplies gas, electricity
and related services to about 6.8 million customers through its
retail business, npower. Its IT operations, RWE Systems UK, has
about 1,200 IT staff working in 13 different locations across the
UK, providing IT service management, application development and
support, infrastructure management and procurement.
Last October npower began a six month trial of
smart metering.
