Most large firms use IP telephony, study shows

More than half of large UK firms now useIP telephony, but the uptake ofIP videois much lower.

Extreme Networks and partner Data Integration questioned 115 firms employing more than 500 people and found that 59% now run IP telephony on their Lan, whereas only 32% run IP video technologies.

Satisfaction levels with voice over IP deployments were high, revealed the survey, with 88% happy with their them.

An additional 27% of UK businesses are expected to implement voice over IP systems in the next three years, said the study.

Although only 32% of UK companies currently have IP video running, 85% are happy with their deployments.

The survey found that 43% of companies fail to see any clear benefits of IP video systems.

Cisco CEO, John Chambers, used this week's CES show in Las Vegas to drum up support for IP video, saying that it would be the next big app to shake up the industry.

Cisco recently signed a video conferencing deal with BT to support the IP video needs of firms.
