CarlsbergUK has installed data
recovery software to maintain key IT systems that control brewing
operations.
Operations at the Leeds brewery depend on its IT systems. In the
event that production servers fail, users failover to secondary
servers so that they are able carry on working without interruption
to service.
Replicating live data is central to this process.
"A benefit of having two identical datasets is that we are able
run our tape back-up from secondary servers. This means that the
back-up process does not interfere with production performance and
we are able to run the back-ups during standard working hours,"
said Graeme Walker, senior systems engineer at Carlsberg UK.
Carlsberg used software from Double-Take that continuously
replicates data required by the brewery
management systems from production to back-up servers.
Walker said that if his team needs to investigate problems,
install patches and implement server or software upgrades, they are
now able to manually failover to the secondary servers, leaving
them free to work on the production servers without compromising
performance for users.
