Toyota Motor Europe (TME)is rolling
out a centralised, computer-based training system for 80,000 staff
at 28 independent sales and marketing companies in 48
countries.
The aim of the project is to reduce course development costs,
standardise content and improve distribution of information about
new products.
The Toyota Connect e-training system, based on Certpoint's VLS
software suite already in use by the US division, was piloted in
France and Spain, with the first phase of implementation due for
completion by the end of this year.
Sann Rene Glaza, TME's senior manager for the learning
technologies group, said Certpoint had been chosen for Toyota
Connect because out of the five systems the company looked at, it
was the best fit for the requirements set by user focus groups.
TME was looking for a
learning management system that would enable core information
to be supplied by the company's training centre, but was easy for
country teams to modify according to local language, cultural, and
legal requirements.
Next year will see the start of the roll out of Toyota Connect's
second phase, which will involve the development of a dashboard so
that users can be monitored to ensure all users keep up to
date.
"Full adoption of the system will mean that more material can be
made available online," said Glaza.
Toyota also plans to develop a Global Knowledge Centre web site
for sharing e-learning materials between the European, US and
Canadian networks.
