Cisco is now shipping its highest ever performing
intrusion prevention system to tackle enterprise security
threats.
The Cisco
IPS 4270 sensor appliance is designed for media-rich and
transaction-heavy networking environments, able to tackle apps such
as voice, video and social networking tools with a 4Gbps (gigabits
per second) maximum throughput.
For networks with heavy transaction-based traffic, such as
e-commerce, point-of-sale, instant messaging, and voice over
IP, the new appliance provides a throughput of up 2Gbps, and
supports as many as 20,000 transactions per second, said Cisco.
Cisco said the new appliance enables IT organisations to
"virtualise" both inspection and policy information, allowing
intrusion prevention services to be woven into the overall
datacentre system.
