Ofcom to auction more spectrum for business broadband services

Ofcomis releasinghigh-frequency spectrum accessto allow firms to benefit from new broadband services.

The high-frequency spectrum, which will be released via an online auction, is suitable for a number of different uses, including high-capacity broadband services for organisations seeking to share wireless internet connections across buildings in close proximity, said Ofcom.

But the spectrum can also be used to support long-range connectivity. The spectrum bands are between 10Ghertz and 40Ghertz. This means they can carry large amounts of data over distances of up to 12 kilometres.

The provisional date for applications to take part in the auction is 16 January. Confirmation of the date will be made before Christmas.
