German oil and gas company Wintershall hasoutsourcedthe management of all itsSAPsystems, Lotus Notes e-mail and its intranet toBASF IT Servicesto ensure availability and security.

This includes 12 SAP systems for 1,000 users worldwide and 2,500 mailboxes hosted on 43 servers across the company.

Last year, Wintershall outsourced part of its IT activities to BASF IT Services, including infrastructure services, computing centre operations, security and support for 1,200 PC users at the company's sites in Germany.

The decision to extend the outsourcing agreement was based on BASF's ability to provide security, availability and round-the-clock management services, said Mario Mehren, head of information management at Wintershall.
