Fordis integrating speech technology
in new car models to control communications and entertainment
features.
The use of voice to control such systems will also improve
safety, as drivers will be able to keep both hands on the
wheel.
Ford is using speech recognition and text-to-speech technology
from Nuance, together with its own Ford Human Machine Interface, to
enable drivers to control carphone, navigation and entertainment
systems.
Nuance VoCon speech recognition and RealSpeak Text-to-Speech
technologies will be available across Europe for the Ford C-MAX and
Ford Focus starting next month, followed later by the Ford Galaxy,
Ford Mondeo and Ford S-max.
The Ford Human Machine Interface (HMI) enables drivers to use
voice commands to place calls, to enter an address to the
navigation system, select the desired temperature, and control the
audio system.
