A Christmas wish list for IT professionals says they
want more staff and bigger IT budgets for 2008.
The list was produced from a poll of more than 600 IT
professionals by business IT provider CDW.
Asked what one gift their firm's senior management could give
them to make their jobs easier in 2008, the top responses overall
were more IT staff (27%) and more IT budget (16%).
Other responses included wishes for the option to telework, more
technology upgrades, more time to get their own work done, more
training and more time off.
In the survey, 59% of respondents said their organisation is
somewhat likely or extremely likely to increase investment in
IT.
Asked for their outlook on particular technology investments,
52% said their companies are somewhat or extremely likely to
increase investment in
virtualisation, with knowledge management in second position at
40%.
And 28% believe their organisations are likely to allow more
employees to telework in 2008.
When it came to the gadgets they wanted for Christmas,
high-definition TVs topped the list at 24%, followed by the
Nintendo Wii (10%), a digital SLR camera (9%), and iPods and home
theatre systems (both 8%).
The favourite Christmas movies for the IT fraternity were
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (24%), Christmas Story (15%)
and It's a Wonderful Life (14%).
