Canadian officials are investigating a medicalcomputer hackof patients' HIV and
hepatitis status.
Officials in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador are
investigating a web security breach after a desktop was taken from
an office to be used in a consultant's home, reports CBC News in
Canada.
The data leaked include test results for diseases such as HIV
and hepatitis, along with patient names and health numbers.
Health minister Ross Wiseman said a computer was taken to the
home of a consultant working for the Provincial Public Health
Laboratory, something Wiseman said should never have happened.
"That was an inappropriate use. Obviously individual computers
that are available for work are there for the workplace only,"
Wiseman told CBC News.
The hack was discovered after someone claiming to be a computer
security specialist from outside the province called the consultant
to say they were able to access the data, CBC News said.
