The travel industry may have to redevelop its
reservations systems to capture extra travellers' details under the
government's newe-Borders scheme.
The industry has already had to cope with data capture requests
with respect to the US, Spain and other countries that involve up
to 34 data items. However, e-Borders expands this by up to 54
pieces of information. Allowing for duplication to cover different
modes of travel, this reduces to around 36 data items per passenger
per trip.
The
European Union and the US agreed earlier this year to exchange
19 data items in a so-called
Passenger
Name Record. The industry is expected to negotiate with the UK
government the exact items it requires under the e-Borders project
as it vastly expands the present requirements.
The House Office said the data items it hopes to collect
are:
