More than half of websites run by European airlines have
failed a consumer fairness test by theEuropean
Commissionand face closure unless they clean
up their act.
A
report obtained by Reuters in advance of its publication
tomorrow says the airlines also face fines for not playing fair
with air travellers.
Reuters said the report says, "over 50% of all websites showed
irregularities, in particular relating to price indications,
contract terms and clarity of proposed conditions".
The report goes on to say, "Companies will be contacted by
authorities and asked to provide clarification or change their
practices in four months. Those who fail to do so could face legal
action leading to fines or closure of their websites."
Reuters says the report tomorrow does not identify any airlines
in particular, but says rogue airlines will be named by the
European Commission next year.
