Businesses are undermining theirnetwork securityaccording to a survey
from IT security firmSafenet, which reported that some
8,500 mobile devices are left at airports.
The major London airports reported the biggest haul of gadgets,
where more than 400 laptops and 2,500 other mobile devices are lost
annually. People using airports in the northwest of England are
misplacing more than 100 laptops and 800 mobile gadgets a year.
"Companies are investing large sums of money in protecting
network data, only for employees to run the risk of losing it due
to carelessly misplacing laptops and mobile devices," said Gary
Clark, Safenet's vice-president. "As mobile working continues to
grow across the UK and the globe, security for laptops and mobile
devices is more critical than ever before."
If this trend increases, he argued, encrypting information on a
whole range of mobile devices will be as important encrypting the
network itself.
Germans, on the other hand, are more careful, according to the
study. Even so, nearly 800 laptops are left in German airports
every year, and more than 2,500 mobile devices are lost over the
same period.
