Carbon emissions capping legislationwill target the IT sector after 2012, and businesses should
prepare by developing green technology plans, a Labour MP has
advised.
The comments follow the launch of the EU Emissions Trading
Scheme last week, which issued CO2 limits that countries, including
the UK, must not exceed between 2008 and 2012.
Currently, 50% of UK business sectors, including chemicals and
fuel suppliers, are covered by EU limits.
Alan Whitehead, Labour MP for Southampton Test and chair of the
Parliamentary Renewable and Sustainable Energy Group, said the IT
sector is bound to be affected when the next phase of limits is
announced after 2012, suggesting the move to thin client computing
as a way forward for businesses.
