Over a third (35%) of UK workers who use computers
sayIT securityis left up to them when
they are outside the workplace, according to research by
YouGov.
The online survey of over 2,000 people was commissioned by IT
services
provider
Dimension Data.
The company said the research had uncovered a serious gap in the
security policies at many companies, particularly as the survey
showed more than half of PC users (54%) worked remotely.
The research also showed that just over a quarter of British
workers (26%) copied data onto mobile devices for work at least
once a week, 32% shared their work computer with other members of
their household, and 40% regularly use USB sticks for moving
data.
"The research clearly shows that end-user education has a long
way to go with 18% of UK workers revealing their work passwords to
at least one other person, highlighting an entrenched lack of
understanding of the importance of workplace security," said
Alastair Broom, line of business director for security at Dimension
Data.
