TfL awards IBM congestion charge contract

IBM will be the service provider for the new congestion charging and low emission zone afterbeing awarded a contract by Transport for London, which will start in 2009. IBM will replace the currrent contractor Capita.

The company will be responsible for the operation of the schemes and the technology underpinning payments and customer contact channels.

The contract is for five years with the option to extend for a further five years.

Graeme Craig, interim director of Congestion Charging at TfL, said: "IBM's submission to operate the London Congestion Charging scheme has been selected as it best meets TfL's operational and technical requirements."

Paul Robb, IBM public sector executive, said, "We look forward to a strong partnership with TfL in which IBM will bring its unique transformational capabilities and extensive experience of road charging and intelligent transportation systems. Working with TfL we will provide London with a world-leading urban congestion charging scheme that addresses its congestion challenges now and in the future."
