Some 91% of IT managers have cited downtime as their
biggest headache, according to a Netcordia survey of 100 users.
When questioned on the number of hours of downtime experienced, 25%
of IT managers reported an excess of five hours each
month.
The hourly cost of
network downtime is approximately £21,000 in large corporates
according to Gartner Group (2005) or 4% of revenue according to
Infonetics (2004).
Such heavy losses have resulted in businesses investing funds
into anything from additional staff and staff training to network
management tools and outsourcing in an effort to reduce the time
taken to bring IT systems back online.
At the time of the Netcordia survey, two-thirds of IT managers
were looking to make additional investments into network management
tools to address the issue of downtime.
