Nottinghamshire policeis piloting a
mobile data product that allows officers to spend more time on the
beat and less time in the station swamped with
paperwork.
The system from Beat Systems is designed to allow officers to
spend up to an extra hour on their beat, rather than spending it in
the station dealing with admin and searching for data.
The Beat Systems product gives officers real-time access to
multiple core operational systems. Initially, the system will be
used by around 40 officers, with plans for a much wider rollout if
the results are positive.
Beat mobile data fully integrates with core systems like the
Police National Computer, force internal intelligence systems,
QAS (electoral role), officer briefing and tasking systems, remote
crime form completion, and Nottinghamshire's other internal systems
and e-mail.
A further stage of the roll-out will see the inclusion of
additional applications such as photographs of defendants and the
provision of further forms.
Richard Hitch, IT project manager for mobile data at Nottingham
Police, said, "We were looking for a solution that could work on
Blackberry, PDA and
Tetra Airwave devices. Beat Systems is one of the few mobile
data software providers that is hardware, bearer (network) and
operating system independent, and this was a key differentiating
factor."
