Hertel, a UK construction company whose clients includeBNFLand Shell, is preparing to roll out an enterprise resource planning system to underpin its global expansion.

The IFS system will be used to manage Hertel's payroll, finance, and orders.

"Work order management and finance are central to billing our customers accurately, and we need to ensure this is done in a standard way as we grow our business," said David Redpath, group IT manager at Hertel UK.

In a pilot project, the system enabled payroll to process 1,200 extra claims a month, and the number of staff needed to process payroll was reduced from eight to four.

The company plans to deploy the IFS ERP system in Germany and Belgium in 2008, and then to new offices in the Middle East.
