Her Majesty's Revenue & CustomsIT headSteve Lameyhas been promoted to chief operating officer.

Lamey joined HMRC as CIO in 2004, and helped bring together the technology platforms of the Inland Revenue and Customs & Excise when the two merged.

Lamey has also overseen an increase in online self assessment, and was involved in negotiating major contracts with key suppliers, including those involved with the previously troubled tax credits system.

Lamey's replacement as acting CIO is Deepak Singh. Singh joined HMRC last year from T-Mobile, where he was a vice-president.
