Brunel University has launched a workplace-skills
master's programme, teaching IT professionals to apply practical
skills to real-life business situations.
The University's School of Information Systems, Computing and
Mathematics has partnered with insurance company AXA UK to develop
the master's course, called Information and Communication
Technology in Business.
The programme is designed to teach IT professionals how to
contribute to innovation and business.
The need for better
business skills has been high on the agenda for many IT
professionals, especially those in higher level positions such as
Chief Information Officers. Brunel University said business
skills are increasingly important, with 98% of business leaders
saying they see IT as strategically important to the future success
of their business according to a survey by PWC.
The three-week course requires students to attend four one-week
learning courses. The rest of the learning is done in the
work-place.
Mark Lycett, deputy head of the School of Information Systems,
Computing and Mathematics, said, "Information and communication
technologies are fundamental to the business environment, but their
role in achieving sustainable competitive advantage requires smart
thinking and understanding of the business if they are to be truly
transformational. This course is designed to give IT professionals
the skills they need to achieve this."
