Chemical manufacturer boosts global IT with Unisys deal

Ciba Speciality Chemicals is bolstering its global IT strategy byoutsourcingsupport for its 12,000 employees worldwide toUnisys, using onshore and offshore resources.

The chemical company, which offers products for several industries including automotive, packaging, home and personal care, has outsourced end-user services, datacentre services and management of SAP systems. The initial roll-out across all locations throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia is planned for completion in 2008.

"Ciba needs an expertly managed IT infrastructure that gives us the agility to compete in a constantly changing global marketplace, and Unisys is an ideal partner to help us realise that goal," said Michael Loechle, chief information officer at Ciba.

Unisys will use its global sourcing capabilities for Ciba, combining local service delivery with delivery from Unisys services centres in Budapest, Hungary and Bangalore, India. In Switzerland, Unisys will partner with Swisscom IT Services to provide Ciba with datacentre services and management of SAP systems.

Earlier this year, Unisys signed a managed services deal with BT to strenghthen the network services side of the company's IT outsourcing portfolio.
