Data leakage is the top IT infrastructure security issue, pushing outbound content compliance (OCC) systems into fifth spot of the hottest infosecurity product market from 10th six months ago, says independent US research house TheInfoPro, (TIP).

A TIP study found 10% of more than 150 Fortune 1000 companies interviewed plan to install OCC solutions within the next six months and another 12% plan to use them by the third quarter of 2008. More than half plan to spend more than £250,000 addressing the issue.

Most interviewees expect to use Vontu, which mentioned more than twice as often as its closest competitor, Vericept. Other providers under consideration include Websense, Verdasys, Tumbleweed, Cisco, Google, BorderWare and Microsoft.

"Until recently, the focus was on preventing breaches from the outside, but now there has been a growing concern to build up defences from internal threats of data leakage," said Bill Trussell, TIP's managing director of information security research.

TIP's Technology Heat Index gauges the immediacy of user needs and planned spending for over 40 information security technologies.
