Further evidence of China's growing willingness to steal
Western intellectual property emerged this week whentwo Silicon Valley engineers were charged with economic
espionage.
The FBI alleged they conspired to steal microchip designs for
military communications and laser technologies that they hoped to
sell to the Chinese.
The case parallels other cases in the 1980s, when the FBI
arrested Soviet spies who stole or bought high-end computer games
for the high-speed chips they contained.
FBI director, Robert Mueller, told congress in July that China's
espionage operations in the US were a "substantial concern", and
that Beijing was stealing American secrets to fuel its military and
economy.
