IT managers are increasingly being asked to reduce the power consumption of their IT infrastructures.
An independent survey of IT managers commissioned by archiving supplier Plasmon said 34% of managers had already reduced their power consumption.
In addition, 26% said they expected to be given the task to reduce power within 12 months. Overall, 86% of respondents expected to be responsible for reducing power consumption in their IT infrastructure within three years.
Financial services lead the way in decreasing power consumption, with 47% of respondents already working to reduce IT power.
The protection of the environment was the biggest motive for financial services firms, and a limited amount of power being available was the main reason for 20% in this sector.
By contrast, 68% of manufacturers claimed cost reduction as the most significant motive.
