The UK has moved into the European top five for
providing government e-services to its citizens.
Capgemini has announced the findings of its seventh annual
eGovernment benchmark study, which reviews the progress of online
public services in Europe.
Conducted on behalf of the European Commission, the survey shows
that the UK has moved from sixth to fifth place in the European
table, which covers both the sophistication and availability of
online government services.
The survey assesses more than 5,000 public agencies in 31
countries, including the 27 EU member states plus Iceland, Norway,
Switzerland and Turkey.
The top five in order for both sophistication and availability
of online government services are: Austria, Malta, Slovenia,
Portugal and the UK.
The survey says 89% of basic public services in the UK are now
fully available online.
