BTandSiemensare to provide joint
end-to-end logistics data management solutions to firms,
includingradio frequency identification(RFID)
technology.
The systems, targeted at the retail, food and beverage,
aerospace, and defence sectors, will take advantage of existing
auto-ID technologies and other complementary technology, such as
RFID and sensor networks, to provide scalable asset management and
product tracking capabilities, said the pair.
The agreement will initially focus on the retail and food
manufacturing sectors, delivering end-to-end visibility of the
supply chain, enabling customers to optimise their distribution
channels and deploy faster logistics processes.
In the defence sector, BT and Siemens will help deliver speedy
compliance to mandates, such as those now in force from the US
Department of Defense, and solutions to improve operational
effectiveness.
Customers will be able to choose from off-the-shelf, bespoke or
fully managed services.
