Electronic Data Systems(EDS) has offered early retirement to 12,000 employees.

Workers in the US will have until Oct 30 to accept and the move is the latest in a series of job cuts.

EDS cut 5,000 jobs in 2003, and in 2004, its chief executive announced that the company would shed another 20,000 jobs.

EDS has been recruiting workers in low-cost countries, chiefly India, where it has 20,000 workers while cutting jobs in the United States and Europe.
