Six local authorities have been chosen as the shortlist
for this year'sLocal Government IT Excellence
Awards.
They include Blackpool Council, Derbyshire County Council,
Kirklees Council, the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham,
North Lanarkshire Council and Wolverhampton Arts and Museum
Service.
The awards aim to recognise and highlight the use of best
practice in local government and the innovative use of technology
to deliver public services.
Potential winners include Blackpool's new approach to serving
customers, which combines customer relationship management and
enterprise case management, and has saved £2m.
Hammersmith and Fulham are using data gathered about their
residents to improve services, and Derbyshire has put 65,000
historic images of the town on the internet for residents to
use.
The short-listed entrants will now make presentations to a panel
of judges, and the finalists will be announced later this
month.
Previous winners include West Lothian council, which improved
children's services by boosting communication between different
agencies.
The awards are run by

Socitm and SOLACE, and are sponsored by Ericom Software
Ltd.
