Crown Prosecution Service to award complex cases technology contract

TheCrown Prosecution Service(CPS) has started a tendering process for the supply ofelectronic document management systemsto help with the management of complex cases.

The CPS intends to roll out an electronic preparation and presentation of evidence (EPPE) system.

The EPPE contract covers document scanning systems, software to present electronic evidence, courtroom hardware and confidential case material handling systems.

Such technology will be used in long and complex cases such as fraud. The technology is designed to reduce photocopying costs, and case preparation and court trial times for both prosecution and defence teams.

The contract will cover the CPS London region and casework divisions at the CPS headquarters.

A shortlist of potential suppliers will be drawn up in September.
