Video will drive a 21% compound annual growth rate in
business internet protocol traffic across Wans from 2006 to 2011,
according to a forecast on globalIP traffic released by Cisco. Cisco
also found that P2P traffic will more than quadruple from 649
petabytes per month in 2006 to 2,836 petabytes per month in
2011.
Internet video streaming and downloads are beginning to take a
larger share of bandwidth, and will grow from 9% of all consumer
internet traffic in 2006 to 30% in 2011.
In wireless, combined traffic from 3.5G and
WiMax networks will make up over half of all mobile data
traffic by 2011, driven largely by portable computers with HSDPA
and WiMax cards.
