A range of UK public services are to share a £2m upgrade
in communications services.
The contract was awarded to the communications provider
Northgate Information Solutions. Northgate's CallTouch systems
will be used to manage the complex communications needs of eight
major organisations.
Northgate's CallTouch will be used in the control rooms of
London Underground,
Network Rail,
Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5, and five police forces - South
Yorkshire, Thames Valley, Hertfordshire, Tayside, and Dorset.
Northgate promised the technology would improve call-handling
times, speed-up responses and direct resources more
effectively.
Control rooms and call-handling centres can now combine
communications and IT systems, leading to greater efficiency and
shorter inquiry times. CallTouch should enable simultaneous control
of comms channels, including telephone, radio, CCTV and IT
systems.
Ian Blackhurst, managing director of criminal justice &
public safety at Northgate, said, "Northgate is committed to
addressing the challenges facing organisations required to manage
complex communications and respond quickly to incidents."
