Professionals are risking their reputations by accepting
information and communication technology (ICT) policies they do not
understand, research by management and communication software
company
NETconsent has revealed.
A poll of members of
The Federation Against Software Theft found that while 94% had
ICT security policies in place and 60% were updated each year, 77%
did not have processes in place to ensure staff fully understood
those policies.
The research report said
this was increasing the risk of policy breaches and expenditure or
disciplinary processes.
The research showed 44% of respondents lacked confidence in
their colleagues' understanding of ICT policies and 40% said they
had taken disciplinary action against staff for breaking
policies.
"Policy management tools are fast becoming an essential
application for those serious about demonstrating best practice and
exemplary corporate governance," said Dominic Saunders, operations
director for NETconsent.
The research found only 44% of respondents had an ICT policy
that required regular review and 10% said they would never update
their ICT policy.
