Gloucester ISP Star Technology, which is in the heart of one of the worst flood-hit regions of the UK, is offering free e-mail routing services to local businesses.

Employees at thousands of companies in Gloucestershire are unable to go in to work because of power and water cuts in the county.

Star Technology has offered to help local business by enabling employees to receive and send e-mails from home if they have access to a browser and an internet connection, even if the company's own e-mail server or usual ISP has been knocked out by flooding.

"We will offer this service free of charge for next 14 days and with no obligation," said Paul Watson, vice-president for marketing and product management at Star Technology.

Emergency services say they expect water services to the area to be restored only in the next seven to 14 days.

Watson said Star Technology was operating on its own power generators and had ample capacity at its datacentre to offer e-mail routing services within 24 hours to any company requesting help.

Businesses needing help with e-mail re-routing are invited to contact Star Technology using the free call number 0800 138 4443.
