North Wales Policeis to upgrading its
network to anIP communications infrastructureto
improve services and cut costs.
Comms integrator Affiniti is implementing and managing the
converged communications network that will be used by 2,500
employees across 75 police stations.
The legacy voice network is being replaced with a converged
voice and data network, with management costs reduced.
The network enhancement also enables the use of
collaborative tools, XML applications and desktop
video conferencing that will provide significant time and cost
savings.
The force is already piloting desktop video-conferencing at its
Western Division in Meirionnydd, which is saving officers at least
30 hours a week in travel time.
This will reduce costs by more than £34,000 a year in one
division alone, as well as decreasing the
carbon footprint and allowing officers to invest more time in
supporting the public.
Following this success, North Wales Police intends rolling out
the video conferencing technology to all stations within the next
year.
Ian Davies, projects and customer services manager at the force,
said, "The unified communications solutions boost flexibility and
speed of response, as well as providing a more collaborative way of
working."
