PermanentIT professionalsare, on average,
lasting only three years in a job before moving on, according to IT
recruitment consultancyCV Screen.
CV Screen's analysis of over 500 candidates looked at the
length of time that IT professionals remain in their current
position, before applying for new roles.
The company said most HR and IT managers would not be surprised
about the three-year job turnover rate.
The factors that motivate staff to leave are salary, lack of
career progression, and commuting distances. But CV Screen said
online job boards are now an increasing factor.
"The job boards give candidates ready access to information on
IT salaries and demand for staff, which enables them to assess
their worth within the IT market," said CV Screen.
With a more proactive workforce unwilling to remain in roles
where they are not valued, said CV, management needs to offer IT
staff personal development plans and regular appraisals to ensure
that staff retention within IT departments does not suffer.
