Global petroleum shipping companyStena
Bulkhas fortified its
tape backup and off-site storage systems withNeverfailsoftware to protect its Microsoft Exchange and SQL Server
environments.
Gothenburg, Sweden-based Stena Bulk operates 71 tankers through
several worldwide offices, including London, Singapore, Beijing and
Houston, Texas.
The company relies heavily on the continuous exchange of data
and email to conduct its business, and estimates any disruptions to
these communication systems would cost millions of pounds.
The Neverfail implementation is a result of a review of Stena
Bulk's
disaster recovery plans after hurricanes Rita and Katrina
struck the Gulf Coast near its Houston offices in 2005.
Although unaffected by the hurricanes, Stena Bulk concluded its
global shipping operations would be adversely affected if bad
weather were to cause a period of application downtime.
"Neverfail for Exchange and SQL server, as well as Neverfail's
Application Module eXtensions and Low Bandwidth are the most robust
continuous availability solutions on the market," said Pär Persson,
IT manager for the Stena group.
Stena Bulk said it has already benefited from the Neverfail
implementation. During a two-day system maintenance and power
shut-down at the company's Houston office, Stena Bulk rolled its
server over to its Gothenburg facilities without disruption.
