Sunderland, the winner of the government’sdigital challengecompetition is soon
to become the first city in north east England to host an
international IT event.
The International IT in the
Community Conference
2007 will bring more than a thousand IT businesses and
professionals together at the University of Sunderland on the fifth
and sixth of July.
The conference will be supported by an established IT
exhibition,
IT Works, which will host stands from leading industry
suppliers.
Chris Laws, project manager for the event, says being selected
to host this event will give Sunderland the opportunity to showcase
its plans to tackle social exclusion through digital media.
The two-day conference will include a regional directors’ forum
and discussion on a wide range of topics such as wireless cities,
the digital challenge and IT as a career.
The conference will look at IT and communities; particularly how
many communities, both urban and rural, are becoming increasingly
detached from the digital world and what can be done to tackle
this.
