The
British Transport Police (BTP) has responded to
Gordon Brown’s call for suggestions on technology and its real
life benefits to policing.
The incoming prime minister said he had asked Her Majesty's
Chief Inspector of Constabulary, Sir Ronnie Flanagan, to work with
individual forces to identify technology that makes a difference.
He then invited individual officers to make recommendations based
on their experience.
Andrew Watson CIO at the BTP said he has already submitted
details to Sir Ronnie Flanagan of how
mobile data devices have positively improved the effectiveness
of officers.
“Having deployed 400 PDAs, it has been independently verified
that officers are spending on average 51 minutes per shift longer
out of the station. This is a perfect example of how appropriate
technology has been able to assist front line policing.”
