The British Computer Society is discussing
merger plans with the
Communications Management Association (CMA).
CMA members will vote in July to decide if the CMA should become
a subsidiary of the BCS. If approved, the CMA would create a new
communications forum for the BCS, although each group would retain
its own identity.
Both bodies recognise that IT and telecoms are converging, and
believe there are benefits from accessing each other's
knowledge.
"Not only can the CMA help the BCS become a more broad-based IT
body, but the BCS can help move the CMA forward in its own area of
communications," said Carolyn Kimber, chairman of the CMA.
