Local authorities need to ensure greater interaction
with central government to ensure their performance-management
systems work, says a new report from the
National Computing
Centre.
The NCC report,
“
Performance Management in Local Authorities”, also considers
how central government uses key indicators to measure the
performance of local authorities.
In addition, the report says local authorities may need
private-sector help in the effective use of performance management
systems.
The report comes as the government plans to introduce new
performance indicators to measure the performance and delivery of
local authorities.
The move will reduce the number of government indicators from
1,500 to just 200.
