Some 60% of companies are already using
Web 2.0
technologies, a poll of delegates at the Internet World
conference has revealed.
Despite the growing hype surrounding Web 2.0 technologies, such
as blogs, Ajax and
mashups, 69% of companies saw genuine business applications for
Web 2.0, the survey by web hosting company
NetBenefit found.
Jonathan Robinson, chief operating officer at NetBenefit, said,
"Some
Web 2.0 applications have a long way to go before proving their
worth, but it is undeniable that technology with so much potential
to enable collaborative working and empowerment is here to stay.
The popularity of social networking websites and websites
containing user-generated content shows us that.
"Companies need to keep up and assess how Web 2.0 will add value
to their organisation."
The survey revealed that Web 2.0 was seen as a natural
progression in the use of internet technology by many business
users. Almost 83% agreed that Web 2.0 was an online "evolution"
rather than a radical step change in the way people use the
web.
