Intel has unveiled the Intel 3 Series Chipset family to bolster its Intel Core 2 Duo and Quad processor offerings.

Designed for both businesses and consumers, the chipsets will support improved graphics and video and enhanced data storage capabilities, said Intel.

The chipsets will be used with the company’s upcoming Intel 45 nanometer “Penryn family” processors, expected later this year.

More than 100 motherboard designs will be offered around the Intel 3 Series.

Intel also plans to launch a new Intel Core 2 Extreme mobile processor in the third quarter of this year.
