For World Environment Day today (5 June) British
businesses and workers are being reminded to switch off their PCs
when they leave the office each night.
Fujitsu Siemens estimates that not turning off PCs costs UK
industry £123m each year.
Dave Scott, head of communications at Fujitsu Siemens, said, “So
many employees think it is sufficient to leave their PCs on
standby, but we hope to crush that myth and
encourage people to instead turn off their machines.
“As we are about to enter the summer season and the majority of
people will be leaving the office for their one- or two-week annual
break, we want companies to make sure that employees are not
leaving their computers on standby for this protracted period.”
World Environment Day is a United Nations
initiative commemorated each year on 5 June.
